Sony SLV-D380P
$100.00
Released August, 2008
The Pros:Additional jpeg disc readability provides a considerable leg-up on competitor models from Toshiba and JVC. DVD disc compatibility is surprisingly versatile - plays most burned/out-of-region discs without hesitation.
The Cons:VHS playback is hit-and-miss - many commercial tapes are prone to blurring/jumpiness. DVD closes very quickly - may become lodged if discs are not perfectly aligned. Lack of VHS tracking severely limits tape playback - SLP format is entirely unsupported.
The Sony SLV-D380P is an affordable, combination DVD/VHS player for watching VHS tapes and DVD discs via one convenient unit. Although priced relatively low, the SLV-D380P still stands tall against high-end units in that not only does it play a wide variety of media (DVD/CD/MP3/JPEG/VHS), it also offers both component and progressive (480p) output for the DVD player.

Plus, the SLV-D380P is tuner-ready, meaning it merely requires a tuner from another video source with A/V output (cable, satellite, TV) to directly record televised broadcasts. Additional features of the Sony SLV-D380P combination player include a multi-brand TV remote control, bilingual operation, and front A/V inputs for quickly viewing newly recorded camcorder videos. The Sony SLV-D380P retails for $99.99 and comes with a 1 year limited warranty.
